Who Am I?
Hi everyone, I’m Oscar Arrais.
I create because I love it. Simple as that.
For me, art is play. It’s experimenting, trying new things, following whatever feels right in the moment. There’s no fixed path here, no rules I need to obey. I’m constantly evolving, constantly exploring, and that’s exactly how I like it.
I’ve always had art in me. As a kid, it was my world. Then life stepped in and I tried to follow more “acceptable” paths, Physical Education, IT, Architecture. Some of them made sense on paper, but not in my body.
Architecture ended up taking me across the world, from Brazil to Australia, and that journey changed everything. But the real turning point came when my life cracked open. A breakup, leaving work, feeling completely out of alignment.
That’s when I stopped running and started listening.
I turned inward. Meditation, breathwork, reconnecting with myself. And through that, I found my way back to creating. Not for approval, not for a career, but because it genuinely makes me feel alive.
That’s when textiles entered my life.
I started collecting discarded materials, fabrics, offcuts, things people didn’t want anymore. And something clicked. There’s so much beauty in what we overlook. So much life still sitting there, waiting. My work comes from a place of consciousness. A deep respect for our Mother Earth. She gives us everything, constantly, and I believe we have a responsibility to honour that. Reusing materials, reducing waste, creating with intention, it’s not just part of my practice, it’s part of how I live.
When I say nature, I mean everything. The seen and the unseen. The living and the still. I feel deeply connected to that, like I’ve been here before, many times, experiencing it all in different forms. And that energy flows into what I create.
Outside of the studio, I’m a bit of a character. I dance weirdly, I pull funny faces, I laugh in all sorts of ways. I’m a little crazy, but in the best way. Crazy about life. Crazy about chasing my dreams. Crazy about my people. And deeply grounded in kindness and gratitude. Those two walk with me every single day.
I don’t create to fit into a category. I create to feel. To explore. To honour where I am, and where I’m going. If that resonates with you, you’re already part of it.
